Every build, what changed in it, and what was measured. Newest first.
Sialk Player is in public beta. The beta is the stage before 1.0, not a label worn by a series of releases; it ends on a count of rooms, and then 1.0 ships. What each numbered version will contain is on the roadmap.
0.1.4 - public beta · macOS, Apple Silicon · 13 September 2026
A playlist opened and saved like a show, and the playlist file's own name and icon.
What changed
- Untitled at launch, nothing remembered. Sialk Player opens on an empty playlist that exists nowhere on disk, the way Sialk Operator opens on an untitled show. Save asks for a name and a place once, then writes silently; Save As, New Playlist and Open Playlist are on the File menu with their keys; a playlist double-clicked anywhere opens where it is. Closing with unsaved changes asks once. The status bar names the document.
- The column lists playlist files. The playlists in Documents, Sialk, Player, Playlists, the open one lit, Untitled above them while unsaved. Rename and delete act on the file; delete asks once and sends it to the Bin. Taking a file out of the running order asks the same way.
- Opening hours name their playlist by file. Choose the saved playlist the room plays; at the open time the room opens it and starts from the top.
- A playlist is a
.slkpfile, with its own document icon, Player's mark on the page. A.sialkplaylistfrom 0.1.3 still opens and is saved as.slkpfrom then on. - The beta mark beside the wordmark, as Operator wears it; the Licence tab out of sight until there is something to paste.
- The cap is three files in a playlist. A playlist is a file the room keeps anywhere, so playlists themselves are not counted.
0.1.3 - public beta · macOS, Apple Silicon · 12 September 2026
A way in for the files the wall could not play, and a place for a key.
What changed
- Prepare for the wall. A video the wall cannot play, ProRes or DNxHD, or would play silent, AC-3, DTS or TrueHD, shows a Prepare key on its row. One press re-encodes it on the ffmpeg already on this Mac, shows the progress on the row, and puts the result in the running order in the original's place. Without ffmpeg, the key says the one command that installs it. Nothing is bundled.
- A licence pane. Paste the key from your email under Settings, Licence, and the three-by-three cap lifts. Checked on this Mac, never over the network.
0.1.2 - public beta · macOS, Apple Silicon · 12 September 2026
A room that comes back by itself, and a record of what it showed.
What changed
- Start with this Mac. A switch under Opening hours makes Sialk Player a login item, so a room whose Mac logs in by itself comes back after a power cut and the schedule takes it from there.
- The log, in words. Every run writes a log under Documents, Sialk, logs; Settings shows it as sentences: what was on the wall and when, and what went wrong.
- Playlists are files. Each playlist is a document in Documents, Sialk, Player, Playlists. Copy one to a stick with its films beside it and open it on another Mac; deleting one moves it to the Bin.
- The silent-audio warning now shows on the wall's own strip, not only on the card.
0.1.1 - public beta · macOS, Apple Silicon · 12 September 2026
The first public build.
What changed
- Add a film or a folder of stills, put them in order, press Take, and nothing but the picture reaches the projector.
- Opening hours, a slate, subtitles from a file, a phone remote behind a PIN.
- Signed and notarised; open the disk image and drag Sialk Player to Applications.
- Free, in beta: three playlists of three files each, no watermark, no time limit, no account.
