Why pay £99 for a v1
Free is the whole instrument, so the honest question is what the £99 buys. Four things.
The right to be paid. Free is for your own shows. The night somebody pays you to run the room, the licence is Studio, and £99 is less than one such night.
The stems. Free hears the room as one signal. Studio hears the kick, the bass and the vocal on their own lines, from the Sialk: Connect plugin or a multichannel device, so a visual can answer one instrument and ignore the rest. That is the difference between reacting and playing.
Everything that is still coming, at today's price. Cues, several outputs, NDI and Syphon, the full remote: each arrives in a later version and each is yours, because Studio includes every update forever. The list price becomes £199 when the rig lands. Buying at £99 is buying the finished product before it is finished, and that is the whole discount.
Nothing rented, nothing checked. Studio never phones home and never expires. A show does not depend on a login, a server or the venue's wifi. You pay once, and the instrument is yours the way a keyboard is.
What you are not paying for: layers, quality, the library, the audio contract, MIDI or shows. Those are free, and they stay free.
Educational
Studio without the commercial licence: £49 once, for verified students and institutions.
Nothing is rented. Studio never checks in. A lapsed AI subscription takes away generation and nothing else.
The whole public beta is free today. The roadmap says when things arrive.
